Turtleneck Chic

I've never thought of turtlenecks as being "chic". In the past I've just not been a big fan. When I think of turtlenecks, I think of printed ones my elementary teacher wore under jumpers or something moms wore with their mom jeans in the 90's. BUT these ladies make the turtleneck sweater look SO chic! I think I'll embrace this style because I like a good sweater! Seems like something easy to throw on for work or cozy holiday time with the family. The more I think about it, the more I think I will like a good turtleneck come the dreaded, frigid, January weather!

Halloween Party

We had a Halloween party at our house on Saturday. It was a lot of fun! We had themed food, decor and fun costumes! I charged up our DSLR camera and then didn't use it, so I apologize for the poor iphone quality photos. The black lights didn't make it any easier. Thanks to all that came or stopped by!

Dining Table

We are in the market for a dining table. We really like the look of a reclaimed wood, farm house style table, but with the modern industrial look similar to the tables below from CB2 and Restoration Hardware. Ideally we would have a bench on one side and mismatched chairs for the ends and other side.

We have looked into the typical home stores (Crate and Barrel, CB2, West Elm, etc) but are also looking into having it custom made. There is something special about having a beautiful custom  (well) made dining table to keep for years.

Dining Table

I love this whole look! We have white vintage tulip chairs that were my grandparents, very similar to these yellow ones.

If anyone has an ideas for me on where to buy or have a table custom made, please share. Anywhere near Indy or even southern Indiana.

Wednesday Wish List

Wednesday Wish List

I'm sorta obsessed with all 4 items on this page. I REALLY want the leather skirt, but what color?? I need a new fur vest too. I've been wearing the one I have for 4 years now and I think this Madewell one looks so plush and full!  I love my leopard smoking flats so much, I want another pair and these orange J.Crew ones seem perfect. And finally, I am IN LOVE with this blue skirt. Sadly, it is out of stock at ASOS. I could definitely make something very similar and just love the style!!

Leather clutch

I finally got around to making the leather clutch I was obsessed with in this post. I went to a few places to check out leather before purchasing from Landwerlen Leather Co. which is right downtown Indy. I used the same method to make this fold over clutch that I did my black and white canvas one. To be honest, it was very difficult to sew the zipper in. Since leather is so much thicker than what I normally sew, I had to buy special needles and nylon thread. My machine did have a tough time getting through the layers. It turned out pretty nice and I have some extra leather that I may use to may a tassel or a different style clutch if I can find a better way to do the zipper.

**Really thought my new iphone would take better pictures. Better get the DSLR back out.

Weekend

It's Monday again. Maybe you're one of the lucky ones with Columbus day off, but I'm at work reminiscing on the weekend we had. Our friends Brian and Alaina got married this weekend. Dan was a groomsman and we had all the groomsmen at our house getting ready and taking pictures Saturday before the wedding. It was a fun weekend celebrating and seeing friends!

Congrats Brian and Alaina!!

Asian Noodle Salad

I got this recipe from The Pioneer Woman. She really does have the best recipes! I actually made this two weeks in a row and it lasted 3-4 days each week. Needless to say it makes quite a bit for only 2 people even having adapted it.  This is a great recipe with all the fresh ingredients and I added chicken to make it a full meal.

Asian Noodle Salad
adapted from The Pioneer Woman (see her website for better pictures and step by step guide)

Ingredients
Salad Ingredients:
Linguine Noodles cooked, rinsed and cooled (I used 1/2 a box for 2 people)
1/2 head sliced napa cabbage
1/2 head sliced purple cabbage
1/2 bag baby spinach
1 whole red bell pepper, sliced thin
1 whole yellow bell pepper, sliced thin
1 whole orange bell pepper, sliced thin
chopped cilantro
3 whole scallions, sliced
1 cucumber peeled and sliced
couple handfuls of chopped (crushed) cashews
3-4 chicken breasts

Dressing Ingredients:
1 whole lime, juiced
8 Tbsp olive oil
8 Tbsp soy sauce
2 Tbsp sesame oil
1/3 cup brown sugar
3 Tbsp fresh chopped ginger
2 cloves of garlic chopped
2 whole jalapenos, chopped
chopped cilantro

Instructions:
Prepare linguine as directed on the box. Cut chicken into small chunks and cook in skillet using olive oil, sesame oil and soy sauce until cooked through. Let cool.

Mix salad ingredients together, adding chicken and linguine.

Whisk salad dressing ingredients together.

Toss only the amount you are serving with the dressing. Save the rest for leftovers. The salad does not keep as well with the dressing added to it.

Enjoy!!
