Wednesday Wish list

By no means do I need anything on this list. As a matter of fact I think I will probably ground myself from shopping for a least a few weeks or even this whole month. Back to budget after our recent trip. Until fall, I don't need to add anything to my closet. Let's see how long that statement lasts.

Wednesday Wish list

1. Really into leather sleeves and considering making a dress with them! I like the casual(ness) of this tee. Also it's 20 bucks!
2. I think this is my favorite color on my summer skin tone.  I like the neckline of this dress too.
3. I've decided a white peplum is a must have staple in my closet. I love this Victoria Beckham one, but not the price. I could probably make this, but don't really have the time.
5-6. I'm lusting over leather shorts right now. Elastic waistband, woohoo!
7. A girl can dream, can't she? I'll take one in every color.
8. Fur fold over. so pretty.

I'm back!!

We got back from New York yesterday so I haven't had time to gather all of our pictures and start blog posts for this week. We had a really great time and I can't wait to tell you all about it! Happy Monday!

Thoughts on Wednesday

I've been busy with work and well, life, that I haven't had time to try new recipes or sew anything, let alone share it with you. I have a full list of projects I just haven't made the time for them. Maybe this fall.

In other news we are headed to New York City tomorrow to celebrate our 2 year wedding anniversary!!! I have never been to NYC and couldn't be more excited. We have a full itinerary of things to do and see including a stop at Mood Fabrics. Project Runway is shot at Mood and it's supposedly fabric heaven. I'll be sure to post my adventures next week.

Maybe I'll run into Tim!

Can we talk about how beautiful Kate is? Congrats to the Royal Family! Did you watch yesterday?

Pre Fall wants

I am not ready for fall. I am not ready for colder weather, but apparently the retail world is, which has me excited thinking about the things I want to add to my wardrobe this fall.

1. Colored leather jacket. I'm thinking deep red or dark grey.
2. Black Jeans. Staple item I know I would wear all the time.
3. Printed tops. I really love this lips top!
4. Ankle boots.
5. Jewel tone bag.

Have a great rest of the week!

Things that are Great!

Mussels! I fell in love with mussels at Brugge in Broad Ripple. Try it, you'll like it! Promise. We made our first batch of them ourselves last weekend. It's incredibly easy and you can order them at Goose The Market for a great deal with their weekly fish order. If I can remember the recipe we used I'll post it soon.

Look what popped up in our front yard! Purple Calla Lilies! We used these flowers in our wedding because the purple center matched my bridesmaids. It made me so happy to see these come up in our yard. The people who lived in our house before us must have loved flowers, because we have had every kind this year!

How great is this dress?!?! I love the sequins back and neon pop front! It's on sale too. Piperlime is having a 70% off sales right now.

Original Netflix series. We watched House of Cards a few months ago and thought it was awesome! Now we are binge watching Orange is the New Black. So good! Both shows.

More greatness, or rather cuteness! Doesn't this face brighten your day?

New on the 'Net

I've come across some fun websites recently I thought I would share with you. Check 'em out!

Poshmark is kind of like Ebay, but much better! It's a site to sell clothes, shoes and accessories. I like that a lot of fashion bloggers sell their stuff on here that they probably got for free or only wore once. You can even follow people and their "closets".

Keep is similar to Pinterest except you can actually purchase items and know exactly where they came from, which is great! One of the things about Pinterest that drives me crazy is seeing something you like and never finding the link to purchase. You can follow people on this site as well.

The Dress Spot is another cool website I came across this week. Basically, you can choose the color and silhouette of the dress you are looking for and boom! several options will show up. It's a nice way to shop if you know exactly what you are looking for and don't want to search several stores. Convenient!

Grey and Pink Color block dress

One of my sorority sisters got married this past weekend and we attended her wedding. Weeks before I started stressing over what dress I would wear. Of course I have a closet full of dresses, but I don't get to see my friends from IU that often so I wanted something special. I started making a floral dress, which I really liked, but about 3/4 of the way done and a week before the wedding I decided it wasn't formal enough. I looked everywhere and couldn't find a dress I liked, when I came up with the idea to make this dress using some fabric I had in my stash.

I spent the entire week making this dress coming home from work and working on it for a few hours every night. I should just double the time I think something will take to make because nothing is ever a quick sew.

I really liked the way it turned out! I didn't get a picture of the full dress at the wedding, just an awesome selfie in the mirror.

Dusty mirror pic.

You can tell from this picture that the bodice band is too big at the top. This is because I didn't follow the pattern. See below in my sewing notes.

Sewing Notes:
I used Simplicity 2176 for the bodice. I did not follow the pattern for the top band and therefore bodice was too long. Lesson learned. I used Simplicity 2512 for the skirt. This is my new favorite skirt pattern. I love the tulip shape and the pockets are the best!!

Taco Tuesday

I know, more tacos. We love tacos of all kinds! My friend Lauren gave me this recipe and I knew it was going to be awesome. It's very similar to the Dr. Pepper Shredded Pork recipe. I topped it with pineapple, but you can choose your own toppings. We ate this for 2 nights and then the third night we ate it over pasta with marinara sauce. So good!! Try it!

Chipotle Shredded Beef Tacos
Ingredients:
Beef chuck roast
1 package of beef taco seasoning
1 can of chipotle peppers in adobo sauce
1 can of Rotel
tortillas
topping: shredded cheese, cilantro, lettuce, chopped tomatoes, pineapple, onions (all optional)

Directions:
Cook 8 hours on low in crockpot. Shred and serve in tortillas with toppings of your choice.

Enjoy!
