I think rose (as a color) has been trendy for a few years now, but it was recently named Pantone color of the year, so if you don't have some of this pink color in your closet, now is a good time to try it out! It's especially pretty for Valentines day!
I actually recently just bought this Clinique lipstick. It's called Pink Honey from Sephora. I love the color! I also really love this ruffle front and cutout back dress and wish I had somewhere to wear it. It's only $55 from Nordstrom. It comes in a pretty blue color as well. Have you seen these puff ball key chains? I guess they are kind of trendy. I'm not sure about them, but this pink one is from H&M. Skirt and sweater are Topshop. Coat is Jessica Simpson. Heart PJ's can be found at Nordstrom and Lace up flats are Chinese Laundry.

Lace up for Less
Sometimes, there are trends that I want to try, but I don't want to spend a lot of money on something that might not be trendy for long or I don't end up wearing that often. That's how I currently feel about lace up flats. I think they are cute and seem to be a perfect addition to a spring outfit, but maybe they won't look quite right or maybe the laces will cut off my circulation. I don't know, but I found a few pairs under $50.00 to try.

Winter
We haven't even gotten through January and I'm already wishing for spring. I don't mind the weather too much, but I'm over the season for illness. We have been passing around stomach bugs and colds in our house for weeks. If one person is sick, we all are. Before I was a parent I heard other parents talk about this and now I know it to be true, little ones get everyone sick. Currently, Roman is the healthiest one in the family. I'm happy he is doing alright, but Dan and I are miserable.
A few weeks ago on a healthy day we did get outside in the snow. It takes a lot of work to bundle up for just a few minutes, but Roman loved being pulled around in his sled! He didn't stop smiling. Or maybe he was just frozen that way. :)

Gingham
I got the latest Nordstrom catalog earlier this week and I noticed the gingham dress on the front. It reminded me of the top I made last summer and also Reese Witherspoon's line, Draper James.
The dress is a standard shirt dress with belt and would be a great sewing project! You can find 1 inch gingham navy fabric at most fabric stores or online. I would recommend using a shirt dress pattern such as McCalls 6696.
Here is the top I made last summer that I never ended up posting.
I used McCalls 6751 pattern for this top.

Roasted Butternut Squash with Sausage and Spinach
It's been so long since I have posted a new recipe on my blog. A couple friends reminded me over break that I haven't posted in a while, so I thought I would get back into it.
I threw these ingredients together this fall and ended up making it several more times with a few variations.
Roasted Butternut Squash with Sausage and Spinach
Ingredients:
-Butternut squash -cut into 1inch cubes (can use pre-cut packaged)
-2 Tbsp Olive Oil
-Minced garlic (to taste)
-Salt and Pepper (to taste)
-1 lb Italian Turkey Sausage (Spicy is really good if you can find it)
-bunch of spinach or kale
Directions:
Pre-heat oven to 400 degrees.
Cover cookie sheet with foil.
Toss butternut squash with olive oil, garlic, salt and pepper in a bowl.
Spread squash on cookie sheet in single layer. Roast for 20-25 minutes.
While squash is in oven, brown sausage in pan on stove. Once sausage is brown, throw in kale or spinach. I used over half a bag of baby spinach and could have used more. Toss in butternut squash and serve.
Enjoy!

2016 Fitness
I know I am not the only one with fitness goals for 2016. I haven't consistently worked out since I had Roman and I would really like to get back into a routine. I feel so out of shape and I miss my yoga and boot camp classes. I miss challenging myself to running more miles and the great feeling afterward. My goal is to make it a priority again.
Have you tried Gap's fitness line? I tried on a yoga top before Christmas and ended up getting it for my mom even though I liked it for myself. I like interesting tops for yoga that have cutouts or neat straps. The neon top above is Gap. (black top is Nordstrom) I haven't tried on Gap pants yet, but I have heard good things. My go-to pants are Zella from Nordstrom. I have 3 pairs, so I am pretty much set, but I do really like these bright pink ones. I got this BKR glass bottle for Christmas and I really like it. It holds 32 ounces and stays really cold. Isn't this silver Nike bag cool?
I also found these yoga mats online. I have never seen bold patterned mats before, and I think these are awesome! They are Yeti brand.

DIY Christmas Stockings
I did a lot of the décor for our wedding which included buying our linens. I sold all of the chair covers and most of the linens after the wedding, but I kept a few of the silver pintuck overlays. I have used them for the last few years as our tree skirt. This year I had the idea to use the fabric to make stockings for us.
It took me about 6 weeks to finish these because I only had a few minutes here and there to work on them. I finished them just in time on Christmas Eve.
I ended up using the pattern my mom used to make our family stockings years ago. I really like the larger size. The inside is red and white stripe fabric. I bought a thicker furry fabric for the top band. I'm pretty happy with how they turned out, but mostly just glad I finished them.

Holidays
We had a wonderful holiday season! I have always really loved Christmas, but having a child made it that much better! I know the older he gets, the more fun it will be. We spent a weekend at my parents house, I met up with my high school friends, had Christmas Eve dinner at our house and enjoyed get-togethers with Dan's family and friends.
