Mexican Grilled Corn

Over the memorial day weekend we grilled out a few times with friends. Our friend Ross brought over some ears of corn and prepared them using this recipe. It was so good, we made it again for another cookout.

Mexican Grilled Corn
Ingredients:
4 ears of corn, husked
1/4 cup of mayo
1 lime juiced
1/2 Tbsp cayenne pepper
1/2 tsp smoked paprika
1/4 cup butter melted or as needed
chopped cilantro
Cheese of choice (cotija, parmesan, feta, etc)
salt to taste

Directions:
1. Preheat outdoor grill.
2. Combine mayo, lime juice, cayenne pepper, and paprika in a bowl. Whisk until smooth. Store in fridge until ready.
3. Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Boil corn in water for 3-5 minutes. Drain corn.
4. Place ears of corn on hot grill and cook until the kernels begin to caramelize 2-3 minutes. Turn corn to grill all sides.
5. Generously brush corn with melted butter then mayo mixture. Sprinkle ears with cilantro and cheese.

Enjoy!!

Swimsuit Cover- up

I have been seeing pom pom fringe shorts in online boutiques pop up quite a bit lately. I haven't been able to find any locally, but it gave me the idea to add fringe to my swimsuit cover up. I really liked the idea of using an eyelet fabric with no lining. I couldn't find the right size pom pom fringe so I ordered it off of Etsy. I am pretty happy with the outcome of the dress!

Life Lately

What's been goin on around here? I've been shopping, sewing, and traveling!

Regretting the decision not to buy these silver Birks I found at Nordstrom Rack. Rare find for $45.

Run to Trader Joes and pick yourself up some of this cookie butter! You will not regret it. It's amazing! My new favorite obsession.

I found these vintage Chanel earrings in some of my stuff from my Grandma. They may or may not be real, but the sentimental value is there and I love them!

I scrambled to make a swimsuit cover up for my trip to Nashville last weekend, and it ended up being WAY too cold to wear it. I will post the full cover-up soon.

Last week I drove to Tennessee and stayed with my good friend Kathleen. We have been friends since 6th grade. I grew up in Murfreesboro, TN (just south of Nashville). I had such a great time being in the 'Boro and seeing all the changes. I probably haven't been there in 10 years.

I drove past my old house in Murfreesboro. This was such a neat house! My parents built the house when I was in grade school. It had lots of fun characteristics inside! Good neighborhood, with lots of friends and memories!
After my visit in Murfreesboro, I spent the weekend in Nashville celebrating my college roommate and sorority sister Dana's bachelorette party. Such a fun weekend in "Nashvegas".

I stopped in Louisville on the way back from Nashville to see my favorite little girl Rye. It's crazy how much kids changes in such a short amount of time. Without prompts she was saying Aunt Ashy this and Aunt Ashy that. She's seriously the cutest little thing! A good cheeser for pictures!

Spicy Cucumber Salad

I have made this a couple of times over the last few weeks and we gobble it up every time. It's so simple to make and such a great side dish! It would even be a good base to add extra vegetables to, such as tomato and onion. Or eat over a bed a lettuce. I imagine it would taste even better the next day when the flavors a really mixed, but we never have leftovers.

Spicy Cucumber Salad
Ingredients:
1-2 Cucumbers ( I use English cucumbers because they are seedless)
2 cloves of garlic
1/2 jalapeno chopped (seeds removed)
3Tbsp lime juice (fresh is best)
1/4 tsp red pepper flakes
1/4 tsp of salt
pinch of pepper
3 Tbsp olive oil

Directions:
Thinly slice cucumbers, add remaining ingredients to a bowl and stir. To lower the heat, use less jalapeno and red pepper flakes.

Enjoy!

BLT Salad

I found this recipe on Pinterest and I have been making it twice a week. It's so easy and soooo good! The dressing is so light and all the vegetables mix together so well! As many times as I have made it, you would think I would have taken a picture, but no. This recipe and photo are from How Sweet Eats.

I usually just eyeball the ingredients chopping enough to fill 2 plates. Follow the dressing recipe though, to get the taste right. If you want exact measurements, please see original recipe here.

BLT Salad
Ingredients:
-romaine or your choice of chopped lettuce
-1/2 an avocado (cubed and split between 2 plates)
-corn
-feta cheese
-cherry tomatoes (halved)
-4 slices of bacon (fried and crumbled)

Dressing Ingredients:
- 1 1/2 Tbsp olive oil
- 1 lime juiced
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1/4 tsp pepper

Enjoy!

Derby Dress

I knew I wanted to make a dress for my friend Chelsey's annual derby party, but I just couldn't narrow down a pattern and fabric. I saw this neon orange fabric and fell in love! I still wasn't sure on a pattern, but I ended up combining two patterns.

I used McCall's 6842 for the skirt and vintage Simplicity 7321 for the keyhole back bodice. I found the Simplicity pattern on Etsy.

I did have a little difficulty with the bodice. The pattern shows buttons at the shoulders, but I wanted it sewn together. It's a little tricky to get it on, but it works!

It wasn't possible to find a zipper to match, so white had to work!

Simplicity Patterns

Simplicity Patterns

Pattern companies are usually at least 6 months to a year behind when it comes to fashion trends and having patterns to reflect those trends. This is very frustrating for me, since I don't know how to draft my own patterns I am usually SOL until the pattern comes out for something I want to make.

Simplicity just released these two patterns. You probably recall seeing every fashion blogger ever wear the Zara skort last year. Now you can make your own!

There have been a few jumpsuit patterns around, but not many. I like this new Simplicity one. I have tried on multiple jumpsuits lately and they don't fit me correctly, so I am considering making one.
